The Lorne Street Collective is an innovative initiative that emerged from the creative vision of Alfie Murphy, the talented bass player of the local band Larches. Alfie recognised a pressing need within the music community for a dedicated space where musicians could not only rehearse but also record their music with the freedom of unlimited access. His journey began with an exploration of various options, including storage units and vacant retail spaces, as he searched for the perfect venue that could cater to the diverse needs of local artists. It was during this search that he discovered the availability of the Lorne Street Studio site, a location that seemed to hold the potential to fulfill his aspirations. After making an initial inquiry to the landlord about the space, Alfie took the next crucial step of rallying his bandmates from The Larches, as well as other local bands, to join him in his vision. He envisioned a collaborative environment where musicians could share the cost of rent while creating a vibrant community. This collective approach would not only alleviate financial burdens but also foster a sense of camaraderie among artists who shared similar passions. The ultimate goal was to provide musicians with 24-hour access

to a nurturing environment where they could write new material, rehearse their songs, record high-quality music, and socialize with fellow creatives who understood the challenges and joys of being an artist. As the driving force behind the Lorne Street Collective, Alfie took on the responsibility of managing the site, ensuring that it remained a welcoming and functional space for all musicians. He offers a variety of rehearsal rooms equipped with the necessary tools and technology, as well as recording services designed to meet the needs of local musicians on a daily basis. This accessibility has made the Lorne Street Collective a cornerstone of the local music scene, providing a much-needed hub for creativity and collaboration. Currently, the Lorne Street Collective boasts a diverse lineup of bands and artists, including The Larches, Ossuary, Subterranean, Redscar, Extrascene, Rose Malus, Silence Me, and Vertigo. Each of these groups brings their unique sound and style to the collective, contributing to a rich tapestry of musical exploration and innovation. The collaboration among these artists not only enhances their individual projects but also strengthens the collective as a whole, creating an environment where new ideas and artistic growth can flourish.
